Harmonization of Safety Programming & Certifications Across Provinces

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) is seeking member feedback on safety programming across the country, and the ability of contractor firms to perform work from province to province. The results of this survey will aid the association in advocating for federal policies to enhance contractor mobility, and to reduce redundancies that limit productivity.

The federal government is reviewing a proposal that would keep safety training delivered by existing provincial, territorial, and organizational providers, while introducing a national framework for standardized testing—hosted federally but facilitated by the same entities that deliver the training. This framework would leverage a national occupational safety standard to maintain training at its highest level, enable mutual recognition of certifications across Canada, reduce duplication, curb monetization, and preserve jurisdictional autonomy. Would you support this approach?
